Coach Presented Stuart Vevers' Fall 2020 Runway Show
Coach today announced that the brand’s Creative Director, Stuart Vevers presented his Fall 2020 men’s and women’s collection for the brand at the 47th Street Warehouse in New York City this afternoon.
Downtown, a light-filled loft. The off-beat charm of an art house collides with the authority of the brand’s heritage. Bursts of primary colors punctuate. An imagined past, subverted with raw, graphic expression and joyful independence. A layered, oversized outerwear statement. Shearling pieced together––with a freehand, art-and-craft effect. The down to earth ease of flat-flat shoes and sneakers. The character of Coach’s leather, bags molded into stackable city blocks, an unexpected Gotham geometry. The brand’s Legacy Stripe, reintroduced and energized with a youthful attitude. A flash of electric spirit disrupting the pale, monochromatic mood. Heritage for the next wave.
The collection also featured a collaboration with the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. In honor of the collaboration, the artist’s sisters and stepmother were in the audience at the show, as well as his niece, Jessica Kelly, who walked in the show.
“We have always been fans of Coach. It’s such an iconic New York brand with really beautiful craftsmanship. To see this collection come together has been truly exciting. Coach has done a great job in capturing the texture, detail and energy of Jean-Michel’s work,” said Lisane Basquiat, alongside her sister Jeanine Basquiat and stepmom Nora. “We are really impressed with Stuart’s vision and attention to the spirit of the work.”
The show featured a live musical performance by singer and songwriter Debbie Harry, who surprised the audience during the show’s finale. She was accompanied by punk rock/garage band The Coathangers, who played covers of songs by Harry’s iconic new wave band, Blondie.
Mr. Vevers presented his latest collection to an audience that included actor, producer and current face of the brand, Michael B. Jordan; Megan Thee Stallion; Kōki; Naomi Osaka; Snoh Aalegra; Zoey Deutch; Jon Batiste; Camila Morrone; Rafferty Law; Dree Hemingway; Paloma Elsesser; Lolo Zouaï; Miles Chamley-Watson; Quincy Brown; Zsela; Lee Quiñones; Malu Byrne; Coco Gordon Moore; Salem Mitchell; Carlotta Kohl; Ellie Thumann; as well as key editors, stylists, retailers and global influencers.
