Tory Burch Resort 2018 Collection

“Resort 2018 is about a unique friendship between two inspiring women, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Princess Elizabeth of Toro, the diplomat, lawyer, and model who lived here in the late Sixties. They epitomized elegance in simplicity and, as consummate travelers, captured a cosmopolitan sense of ease with far-flung references,” said Tory Burch. “We paired clean silhouettes with natural details, such as wood beads, fringed raffia, and embroidery inspired by traditional Romanian needlework, and kept the mood both refined and relaxed, whether pairing an oversized ribbed sweater with an all-over embellished gown or reworking the traditional denim jacket in tweed. That push-pull of elements continues to the accessories, best seen in the double-compartment bag, one side in smooth Dutch calf leather and the other covered in patterned seed beads.”

Silhouettes: Classic, simple shapes are polished, but relaxed, balancing soft lines and fluidity with structure. A-line skirts and tunics have feminine flourishes, while pleated pants, blazers, and a belted trench are distinctly tomboy. Long dresses are elegant, but easy, a compelling ode to the laid-back style of today.

Palette: The collection opens with a crisp pairing of black and white then gives way to natural hues — khaki and ivory — navy, deep burgundy, and orange.

Prints & Patterns: Space-dye — a quintessentially retro pattern — and a crisp windowpane check have nostalgic appeal.

Fabrications: An alchemical blend of the raw and refined, from cotton canvas and rib-knits to leather and lacquered linen. There is a sharp focus on texture: cording and beading embroidered on wool, natural embellishments — wood beads, shells, and raffia — on denim, and contrast stitching and patch pockets on tweed. Pleating and smocking add depth and dimension to a soft chiffon.

Accessories: The inspiration carries through to accessories, from natural linen ghillies with wide ribbon laces and elaborately embroidered canvas heels to a utilitarian belt-bag in a wood grain pattern. Jewelry rounds out the collection with enameled disc earrings and a sculptural necklace of hammered metal leaves for a dramatic statement that captures the season’s spirit of relaxed refinement.
