Red Carpet Fashion Moments From the 2025 Cannes Film Festival

Sun, cinema, and serious star power—Cannes 2025 delivered all that and more.

Running from May 13 to 24, the 78th Cannes Film Festival brought together a vibrant mix of international talent. This year’s main competition featured 22 films, with acclaimed directors like Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater, and Ari Aster presenting their latest works. The prestigious jury, led by Oscar-winning French actress and director Juliette Binoche, awarded the Palme d’Or to It Was Just an Accident by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, while the Grand Prix went to Sentimental Value by Norway’s Joachim Trier.

But as always, Cannes isn’t just a celebration of cinema—it’s a global runway. The red carpet saw a dazzling lineup of stars including Pedro Pascal, Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix, and more, all stepping out in high fashion. Cannes has long been home to bold style statements (who could forget Bella Hadid’s nearly-nude moment in 2024?), and this year promised no less.

That said, a new red carpet policy introduced before opening night changed the red carpet tone. For the first time, organizers banned both "naked dressing" and overly voluminous gowns, citing issues of decency and crowd control. The official dress code stated: “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival. Voluminous outfits, particularly those with large trains, that hinder the proper flow of guests or complicate theater seating, are not permitted.

Despite the restrictions, the red carpet remained as stylish as ever, just more refined. Some stars chose sleek silhouettes and modest glamour, while others subtly pushed the boundaries.
