Gucci Zumi

In the evocative setting of the Théâtre Le Palace in Paris, the location of Gucci’s Spring Summer 2019 fashion show, the striking Los Angeles-based actress and experimental musician Zumi Rosow wore a black nylon jacket and trousers, and carried an elegant, structured and refined handbag in black python leather.

The Gucci Zumi, Gucci’s latest handbag creation, is a stylish and practical accessory combining two of the most historical House motifs, the Interlocking G and Horsebit hardware. This detail, which mixes gold- and silver-coloured metals, is replicated from a rare piece in the Gucci archives and has been chosen by Alessandro Michele for its contemporary appeal.

The sophisticated top-handle version of the Gucci Zumi also has distinctive double-lift lock closures at the top, and is available in two types of leather (smooth and grainy) in a dressy colour palette. This style also comes in precious skins – python and elaphe (in black, neutral and red), ostrich (in light brown, burnt orange and ivory) and crocodile (cocoa, dark green e grey). The top-handle shape in grainy leather is offered in two different sizes, medium and small, and all of the bags in this style have a detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap and a practical interior composed of a zipped compartment and a zipped pocket.

There is also a Gucci Zumi shoulder bag – a new shape that is available in two sizes: small and mini. Again, the distinguishing design element here is the Interlocking G and Horsebit hardware. Both sizes of this model are made only in smooth leather and feature a detachable shoulder chain enriched by Marina chain details, and an adjustable leather top-handle and a rear pocket. By detaching the strap, the bag can easily turn into a clutch and as a top handle once the leather handle is extended; it has true day-to-night potential.

A new small Gucci Zumi tote, inspired by a Gucci vintage bag from the 60s, was also presented during the Spring Summer 2019 show and comes exclusively in crocodile and lizard skins. The front panel is adorned with the Interlocking G and Horsebit detail, which, as with all the Gucci Zumis, is in gold/silver mixed metals. A double sliding chain strap and sophisticated internal construction, to help with the organisation of contents, enrich this bag.

Finally, versions of the medium top-handle and the mini shoulder bag also come in a fun, pop Gucci Strawberry print.

Zumi Rosow in many ways, embodies Alessandro Michele’s vision of beauty, which is inextricably linked to an individual’s personality and attitude. Unconventional and modern, the epitome of a free spirit, Zumi (a whimsical nickname coined by her sister in childhood) is a creative force and has unique personal aesthetic perfectly expressing the different facets of her character. In addition to designing her own jewelry collection, Zumi sings and plays a variety of instruments in her band Crush, and tenor saxophone in The Black Lips. Her striking, unconventional, individual look creates an intriguing and surprising contrast with the restrained refinement of the bag that bears her name, a kind of in-joke between Alessandro Michele and the actress/musician from LA.
