Gucci Presents Winter In The Park
A moment of reconnection with nature; a moment of personal peace. Even in a metropolitan environment it is possible to find calm when we explore that oasis of green, the city park. Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele imagined stepping into this winter world where leaves are scattered on the ground and mist rises from a lake. It could be on the occasion of a solitary walk, a relaxing break or just a visit to a favourite place of contemplation. There seems to be something peculiarly ‘London’ about this vision, dominated by chilly grey skies and populated by tree-lined paths, black metal railings, wooden benches and lamps to light the way as dusk settles.
It is this atmospheric setting that forms the backdrop to the new Gucci digital campaign highlighting four of the House’s most beloved creations: the GG Marmont soft leather matelassé bag, detailed with the same 70s inspired Double G in hardware already seen on belts in Alessandro Michele’s first show for the House; the Jackie 1961, the updated version of the famous hobo model that was first presented by Gucci in the ‘60s; the Gucci Horsebit 1955, an interpretation of an archive piece, now viewed through a new lens, complete with the famous equestrian-inspired detail of a double ring and bar; and the Dionysus Bag, a style first presented at the Women’s Fall-Winter 2015 fashion show, which harmonises old and new House details and is distinguished by a striking double tiger-head closure, a reference to the Greek god Dionysus, who according to myth is said to have crossed the river Tigris on a tiger sent to him by Zeus.
These special pieces star alongside three striking and talented women: singer-songwriter Celeste, fashion designer, television personality and author Alexa Chung, and actor Vanessa Kirby. All three have their own idiosyncratic style and have been pictured wearing Gucci Epilogue collection and a selection of pieces from the House’s Beloved Lines accessories by photographer Angelo Pennetta in a London park last December. The spirit of the images celebrates the freedom to roam, to think, to reconnect. And the quietly poetic and Romantic ideal of enjoying the winter in the park.
