Bottega Veneta Celebrates Chinese New Year

Bottega Veneta puts on a pyrotechnic display for Chinese New Year 2025 with a campaign shot on location at Liuyang, Hunan Province, the historic birthplace of fireworks.

Infused with an atmosphere of joyful celebration, the campaign features Bottega Veneta Ambassadors Yo Yang and Shu Qi, as well as beloved Chinese actor Fan Wei, known for his versatile performances in television, theatre, and film – including several comedic roles. In a further tribute to Chinese cinematic culture, the campaign film and key images are shot by Wing Shya, renowned for his collaborations with Wong Kar Wai as photographer and graphic designer on Happy Together, In the Mood for Love, Eros and 2046.

With an energetic spirit of anticipation and joy, the campaign captures individuals moving through the city by night, gathering at celebratory dinners and parties, and watching a spectacular fireworks display over the waterfront. In a fresh take on a Chinese pop classic, the film is accompanied by a remix of Stefanie Sun’s 2001 hit Green Light by Belgian artist Le Motel. Streaming car lights, shimmering textures, and bright neon signage add to the atmosphere of vibrant festivity while anticipating the grand firework finale.

Liuyang’s firework tradition dates back more than 1,400 years to the Tang Dynasty (618-907), when artisans first experimented with firecrackers made from bamboo tubes. Over the centuries, Liuyang advanced its craft and became a global leader in pyrotechnics. By 1295, fireworks arrived in Europe, reportedly via Venetian explorer Marco Polo, who brought fireworks from China back to Venice. Over the course of the Renaissance, Italy developed its own firework expertise, with so-called fire masters creating increasingly elaborate displays.

In a reflection of Bottega Veneta’s Venetian roots and its own foundational commitment to innovative craft, the Chinese New Year campaign nods to the remarkable handcraft heritage behind Liuyang’s famous fireworks, as well as the firework connection between China and Italy.

The campaign spotlights ready-to-wear looks from Bottega Veneta’s latest collection, as well as key pieces from the house’s Chinese New Year capsule.
