Jimmy Choo Embraces Celebration And Statement Glamour For Winter 2023
The Jimmy Choo Winter 2023 collection embraces celebration - of nature, of texture, of femininity - in a bold and powerful statement. Sculptural, sensual, richly coloured, these are pieces designed to stand out, to turn heads and attract attention. This collection is not for wallflowers.
The orchid forms the collection’s leitmotif - featured as singular blooms, or clustered together to animate surfaces. Ever transforming, floral shapes are reiterated in sculpted metal, like jewellery pieces, in formed leathers, and through embroideries, while their vibrant colours and the textures of their petals inspire luscious taffetas and velvets.
In the orchid, nature meets nurture: orchids are cultivated, crafted, fashioned even. They are a metaphor for a collection that explores heightened senses, a fresh view of the art of nature. This forms the inspiration for the DROP HEEL, a newly introduced emblematic silhouette for Jimmy Choo. With a shape inspired by a drop of liquid, captured in motion and seemingly frozen in time, the DROP HEEL is both natural and supernatural, real and unreal. The DROP HEEL punctuates the season, lending a touch of fantasy to every step - the CYCAS boot, proposed in thigh, knee and ankle height iterations, offers a precise foil to offset the unique shape of the DROP HEEL - like a shadow, in pure black nappa, the focal point is entirely on this new, eye-catching heel, a future icon. Like all pieces in this collection, it is a statement, one designed to turn heads.
Inspired by the preciousness of the natural world, sculptural gold metal blooms, punctuated with dewdrops of crystal, decorate the IXIA pump and ZEA sandal - both featuring the new DROP HEEL in 95mm height, and blurring the line between jewellery and accessory. Formed and sculpted, these flowers are like art pieces - placed asymmetrically on the shoe, no two pairs are exactly alike. The same decoration grows into the handle of the BON-BON to give this quintessential Jimmy Choo handbag style a new sculptural flair. The IXIA silhouette emerges again in boysenberry velvet – its elongated toes and higher cut the perfect offset to the attention grabbing lacquered Drop Heel. The IXIA SANDAL is also proposed in black, with a squared off toe and ribbons of velvet caressing the foot, like a gift ready to be unwrapped. The MICRO BON BON is proposed in crystal mesh, or in an ombré hot fix of crystal as if catching sunlight in nature.
The sculptural shape of orchids in full blown bloom are translated to fine nappa, adoring the slingback AMITA and, unexpectedly, the NARI biker boot. An expression of Jimmy Choo’s characteristic craftsmanship and expertise in leather, these hyper-realistic three-dimensional leather flowers also perch on the AVENUE MINI SHOULDER bag, challenging its sleek minimal shape with a romantic gesture. The shape also serves as a canvas for a riot of embroidered micro blossoms in fuchsia, or a waterfall of crystal drops, a counterpart to the new DROP HEEL.
Texture is a focus - pieces invite touch. The SADIA is proposed in twisted deep-green taffeta, knotted into the style’s hallmark crystal ankle strap with a slender 95mm heel; the same proposition is reinvented with as an 85mm block heel sandal in Citrine velvet - a fabric also used on iconic Jimmy Choo perennials, the BING mule and the MARYANNE slingback.
Accessories are clustered with flowers or draw their fabrics and colours from the natural world. Yet as always with Jimmy Choo, the precious diamond - an emblem of the brand - inspires a multifaceted approach to style. The DIAMOND family of accessories grows, with the new DIAMOND TOP HANDLE featuring a graphic Diamond lock as decoration, and the DIAMOND CHAIN TOP HANDLE, with the curved top handle itself fashioned from the distinctive, immediately recognisable Diamond chain.
“Nature always inspires me - and for the Winter 2023 collection, I began to examine flowers – drawn to their shape, their textures, their colours and their symbolism. Flowers are about togetherness and celebration - a universal idea. And specifically, this season I decided to look at the orchid, a flower that is unique, truly special - its shape is so unusual, they’re like a fantasy of a flower, heightened, almost unreal. Orchids make a statement. They’re cultivated, they’re crafted, so there’s an affinity between what we do and this flower. They’re in the nature of Jimmy Choo.” - Sandra Choi, Creative Director, Jimmy Choo.
Holding the spotlight, attracting the eye, attracting comment - Jimmy Choo glamour, naturally, always makes a statement.
