Marc Jacobs Spring 2018

“We started from last season, and thought: let’s put the effort into making clothes. Let’s show in the Armory like we did before. No set, no fancy lights, no music… but let’s turn the girls out in joyous, oversized, reimagined, exaggerated prints and color.”

This collection is the reimagining of seasons past somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City.

The Collection

Spring’s naively abstract, redrawn, exaggerated prints, and patterns were realized in fabrics of various weights – a mélange of nylons mixed with silk and synthetic satins, jerseys, and twills. Our take on “real” sportswear embraces a super-bold glowing-sunshine palette, matching from top to bottom while clashing together from look to look.

Accessories

Bags take cues from the utilitarian. From flight bags and fanny packs to top load duffels, shrunken and blown out of proportion in printed twill and satin.

Shoes range from an ordinary flip-flop and a techy-sporty sole to an exotic, embellished evening baboosh, all adorned with fringe, tinsel, jewels, gems, pompoms, and tassels.

Inspired by Kate’s legendary Met Ball look, Sofia’s desire to have her portrait taken in a turban, and Katie’s instinct to take the girls from last season and “turn them out,” the turbans are magnificently draped and twisted with our printed scarves by the masterful wizard milliner, Stephen Jones.

Quietly observing, capturing and interpreting the process from styling, sewing, and showing is the legendary and inimitable photographer, Stephen Shore.
