Towards The Sun 2020

Colour is the key to a spirit of freedom and playfulness in Gucci’s Towards the Sun collection. To brighten up our lives, the new range interprets the House aesthetic in a manner that evokes the idea of light and warmth, with a range of pastels reflecting a mood of joy and optimism.

The collection has the benefit of being both formal and informal, offering highly versatile designs suited to many occasions. Refined, elegant and contemporary, the Towards the Sun pieces – which comprise bags, shoes, ready-to wear, accessories and small leather goods – have a characterful, informal spirit and are enriched by the presence of Gucci House motifs and hardware.

TOWARDS THE SUN, Collection Details

The women’s bags in the Towards the Sun collection are from the GG Marmont 2.0, Gucci Zumi and Gucci 1955 Horsebit lines. All these models convey a spirit of easy, relaxed playfulness. In keeping with Gucci’s ongoing celebration of the concept of personal expression, there is a wide variety of bag styles. All the bags feature distinctive Gucci hardware and decoration, like the Double G on the GG Marmont 2.0 – here, often in a new shiny silver finish; the distinctive detail on the Gucci Zumi, which combines two of the House’s famous historical motifs, the Interlocking G and Horsebit detail; and, of course, the gold Horsebit on the Gucci 1955 Horsebit range.

For the GG Marmont 2.0, the flap bag with shoulder strap comes in three sizes (mini, small and medium), the camera case in two (mini and small) and there are also two sizes of the top-handle bag (mini and small). For the first time, the House features the metal GG detail in shiny silver. The fresh colour palette ranges from monocolour baby pink, light blue, pastel yellow and water green, to a multicolour version which blends them all together. Exotics complete the offer, adding a refined touch: crocodile for the small shoulder bag, and python for the same style and small camera case. The exotics come in all the pastel colours, and their shiny finish gives these pieces a distinctly luxurious look. There is also a group of GG Marmont 2.0 pieces in white diagonal quilted leather with contrasting blue piping. This classic colour combination of white and blue has a nautical look, and each piece features the gold twisted torchon Double G buckle detail. As well as being offered in bags – the mini shoulder bag and mini bucket bag – the blue and white treatment is also applied to a wallet on a chain, other wallets, a pouch and card cases.

The Gucci Zumi bag adopts two sophisticated pastel shades. Elegant water green and light blue leather have been used for two sizes of top-handle bag (medium and small) and two sizes of shoulder bag (small and mini). The same colours are also available in the same styles in ostrich for a more unusual effect.

The Gucci 1955 Horsebit has been imagined in a timeless white leather as a large and medium tote bag with a gold chain strap and leather top handles; there is also a medium version of the tote in the same white leather with longer top handles. The distinctive patterned Original GG canvas forms the basis for a new style of Horsebit small shoulder bag and small and medium top-handle bag, where the canvas is teamed with white leather trim. And to brighten the season, a pastel green leather is offered in the medium and small top-handle dome bag, and the small shoulder bag with flap.

The collection also sees the addition of a new idiosyncratic bucket bag. The distinctive construction of this piece features a semi-rigid circular base and a leather top with a drawstring closure, and the style is enriched by a small version of the gold metal Horsebit detail. The new bucket bag is offered here in a small size in Original GG canvas with either brown leather trim or white leather trim and, thanks to the adjustable handles, it can be used in two ways: carried by hand, or, after turning the two handles into a single, longer shoulder strap, on one shoulder. It has a microfibre lining in a natural colour.

Gucci breathes new life into a print from the House archive: the bold red/yellow/green/blue Baiadera stripe. Bags in this colourful pattern in linen have an external oval red leather tag displaying the Gucci script logo in gold. Styles available in this stripe are: a slim messenger bag, which is a brand new shape with a streetwear attitude that can be worn cross-body; the squared belt bag; a half-moon shoulder bag, which is feminine, casual and practical, and suited to every-day use; an east/west tote with top handles and adjustable shoulder strap that is roomy and functional; and two backpacks – a smaller one with a flap closure and a bigger and more overtly masculine version, too.

The Baiadera print also features on a selection of shoes for men: the lace-up, which is a versatile model halfway between a light sneaker and a casual shoe; the classic espadrille; and the new slide, which is characterised by a thick rubber sole. For women, there is a range of pastel-coloured shoes in diagonal quilted leather – slides, Marmont sandals and espadrilles. In pink, blue, yellow and green, and in the case of the slide and one espadrille style, a combination of these four hues, the women’s footwear in Towards the Sun features the Double G hardware in a shiny silver finish, for a fresh take on this emblematic detail. This season, the House has for the first time rendered the Double G in silver, and this new incarnation of the motif can also be found on GG Marmont 2.0 handbags in the Towards the Sun range.
