The Lake Titicaca Challenge—Lacoste Supports Swimmers Theo Curin, Malia Metella, & Matthieu Witvoet

Lacoste is supporting its parasports ambassador Théo Curin in his Lake Titicaca Challenge, a unique and ambitious expedition.

In 2020, Théo Curin relinquished his participation in the Tokyo Paralympic Games to undertake his own adventure. From 10th November, the French Paralympic swimmer, who has lost all four limbs, will embark on a journey of solidarity and environmentalism alongside athletes Malia Metella and Matthieu Witvoet. The challenge? Swimming for a total of 122 kilometers in water of 10 degrees, at an altitude of 3800 meters and without a support team. The entire project has been designed with the objective of limiting as much as possible the negative impacts generated during the preparation and the crossing: the eco-design of the raft, energy autonomy, but also minimalized travel and reduced packaging.

Measuring environmental impact is an ambition we share with the Titicaca Challenge that directly echoes Durable Elegance, our CSR approach. In this context, Lacoste is considering all its activities—from the collection design phase to the garments’ use by consumers, including manufacturing—in order to identify potential actions, and ambitiously improve the brand’s environmental impact. Simultaneously, the Titicaca Challenge is part of the societal aspect of Lacoste's CSR approach, which aims to make equal opportunities a reality, particularly for people with disabilities.

Beyond the sporting challenge, this event embodies values that are dear to Lacoste. As official kit supplier, the brand is proud to support this remarkable adventure, in which the three athletes will have to give their all collectively to succeed. All three have different personal and sporting backgrounds and will be able to rely on this rich diversity to take on the challenge and succeed together in this unprecedented expedition.
