FUORI, curated by Sarah Cosulich and Stefano Collicelli Cagol, takes a fresh look at Italian art by breaking through the traditional boundaries of discipline, media, and genre to connect the inventive work of 43 artists, from unrecognized members of the 1960s avant-garde to contemporary players. With female, feminist, and queer explorations and representations of inexplicable and immeasurable reality, FUORI spotlights the artist’s obsession and the creative act.

The 2020 Art Quadriennale explores the role of desire in all its burning visionary forms, with work from artists such as Sylvano Bussotti, Anna Franceschini, Lisetta Carmi, and Isabella Costabile—artists who cut across generations and explore drive, obsession, and stereotypes through unexpected and imaginative work.

With Gucci’s generous help, FUORI will be open and accessible to all, a celebration of Italian art at a time when culture not only sends a message but stands as a precious source of energy and hope. FUORI means “out,” and this exhibition is out of the box in all senses—it is oversized, wildly creative, and free of labels, limits, and traditional restrictions. Safe practices will be in place, and online reservations can be made by visiting the website of the Fondazione La Quadriennale di Roma and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, which are promoting and organizing the exhibition.
